The Headquarters Marine Environmental Protection Command (HMEPCOM) through the Marine Environmental Protection Training Institute (MEPTI) convened the Basic Marine Environmental Protection Officers’ Course Class (BMEPOCC) 04-2023 and (BMEPNOCC) Non-Officers’ Course Class 08 and 09-2023 on Monday 20 February 2023 aboard PCG Gymnasium, Coast Guard Base Farola, Binondo, Manila.
The activity was presided by CG COMMO FIDELES D SALLIDAO, Director of National Operations Center for Oil Pollution. The said courses are composed of 70 students: 11 students for BMEPOCC 04-2023 via hybrid classroom setting; 30 students for BMEPNOCC 08-2023; and 29 students for BMEPNOCC 09-2023. The 2 classes for BMEPNOC will undergo three (3) months face-to-face training aboard Marine Environmental Protection Training Center, Abucay, Bataan.
Moreover, CG LTJG GERALD L CORDERO, Superintendent of MEPTI is designated as the Course Director of BMEPOCC 04-2023 and CG ENS JOHN CARLO I POYAOAN, Assistant Superintendent is designated as the Course Director for both BMEPNOCC 08 and 09-2023.
The primary objective of this course is to equip the newly reported or assigned personnel of this Command with the foundational knowledge and skills on marine environmental protection doctrines and principles in order to ensure that the mission of this Command is achieved. Moreover, this course will be their stepping-stone in the Coast Guard service since MEPCOM is one of the functional commands of the Philippine Coast Guard which greatly plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and healthy marine environment to benefit humanity.
