07 June 2022 (Tuesday) Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM) kicked off its series of pre-anniversary activities by supporting the Adidas program “Run for the Oceans” The Commander, MEPCOM, CG RADM ROBERT N PATRIMONIO, led the said fun run which signifies our collective desire in saving our oceans for the present and the future generations.
Officers and Non-officers of MEPCOM joined the 3.2-kilometer run from Quirino Grand Stand to the Headquarters MEPCOM in Coast Guard Base Farola. The Director, National Operations Center for Oil Pollution (NOCOP), CG CAPT FIDELES D SALLIDAO and Commander, Marine Science Investigation Force (MSIF), CG CDR GRACE I CAMPOS also joined the said activity and delivered the welcome message to all participating personnel, emphasizing that the said activity is not only a bonding activity for the personnel but also a chance to give back to our marine environment.
For this year’s Run for the Oceans, Adidas and Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of 1 plastic bottle (up to 250,000 kg / 500,000 lbs) for every 10 minutes of running or running-based activity that is tracked. Run for the Oceans is a global effort created to raise awareness on marine plastic pollution.
