The Marine Environmental Protection Command together with MEPGru Cavite and in partnership with River Rangers of LGU-Noveleta conducted a Mangrove Planting and Coastal Cleanup at Brgy. San Rafael IV, Noveleta, Cavite last 28 June 2022 as part of the pre anniversary activities of the Marine Environmental Protection Commandโ€™s 24th Founding Anniversary.

During the event, the Commander, MEPCOM, CG RADM ROBERT N PATRIMONIO posed a new idea that instead of taking pride in collecting many bags of garbage, the Coast Guard should aspire to collect less garbage because it is an indicator that our efforts to rehabilitate nature is effective. The MEPCOM personnel along with Deputy Commander, MEPCOM, CG COMMO ARTURO HOSTILLO E CORNELIO; Director, NOCOP, CG CAPT FIDELES D SALLIDAO; and Station Commander, CG Station Cavite, CG LCDR AILENE G ABANILLA planted 200 mangrove propagules and collected ten (10) sacks of garbage in the vicinity of the mangrove forest. The Bureau of Fire Noveleta also assisted in the course of the said activity.

The mangrove forest in Brgy. San Rafael IV, Noveleta, Cavite is an adopted mangrove nursery of the Marine Environmental Protection Command which is maintained by the Forest Rangers of the LGU-Noveleta. Rehabilitation of the marine ecosystem in the said town is essential since it is bordering the Manila Bay and one of the main livelihood for the community is fishery.
