In celebration of the World Oceans Day the Marine Environmental Protection Command in partnership with Heirs of the World Inc., Miss Earth Philippines Foundation took part in the C.O.R.A.L Triangle Artificial Habitat Deployment last 09 June 2022 at Lago de Oro, Calatagan, Batangas.
A total of ten (10) of artificial habitats were deployed by the PCG SOF Divers, volunteer divers from Heirs of the World and MEPCOM personnel. During the said activity, the Commander, Marine Environmental Protection Command, CG RADM ROBERT N PATRIMONIO on behalf of the Philippine Coast Guard signed a Memorandum of Agreement with an objective to develop possible collaborative projects and activities through Integrated Coastal Resource Management (ICRM) Program in relation to Conservation of Ocean Resources and Aquatic Life (C.O.R.A.L). The program was also graced by the Deputy Commander MEPCOM, CG COMMO HOSTILLO ARTURO E CORNELIO, Miss Earth Philippines Earth 2021 Naelah Shorbaji, Miss Philippines Air 2021 Ameera Almamari, Miss Philippines Fire 2021 Roni Meneses and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism 2021 Sofia Lopez Galve to show their support in the said activity.
MEPCOM in line with its mandate fully supports activities such as this to promote the restoration of the marine environment. This initiative is part of the OPLAN C.O.R.A.L Park which is a project of the Heirs of the World to create coral farms that will grow new corals in areas to be identified by the province as requiring rehabilitation and restoration. This is a comprehensive reef conservation program to help the marine ecosystem by combating the causes of destruction and rehabilitating reef areas, encouraging all Filipinos to build sustainable communities. The event is also part of the celebration of the 24th Founding Anniversary of the Marine Environmental Protection Command.
